General Wheel Cleaners

This category of cleaner will remove brake dust but are not specifically formulated to dissolve brake dust buildup. If you not experience this problem this type of wheel cleaner will work well.

Brake Dust Removers

Brake dust removers contain a specific chemical to dissolve brake dust particles. Many European cars experience this problem. Most brake removers are safe on all wheel types.

Aluminum Rim Care

It is critical to never use an acid base cleaner on bare metal rims. It will etch the metal. Aluminum cleaners come in both a liquid form and polishes. If you are polishing your rims you may want to consider a drill attachment to facilitate faster polishing (see wheel cleaning tools).

Chrome Cleaners

Most wheel cleaners are safe on chrome but you may want a specific chrome cleaner to get your rims sparkling.

Wheel Coatings

If you just use a car wax on your rims it is essentially a total waste of time. Rims get very hot & the wax almost immediately begins to evaporate away. A true rim coating resists high heat & protects the surface. Rim coatings also resist brake bust build-up & make the rims easier to clean.
