How to determine when to replace the cone and tube? Evaluate the condition of the cone and weighted tube assembly by doing a visual and touch inspection. When the cone has become grooved more than 1/16th of an inch, it is very important to replace the cone. Before installing the new weighted tube, compare the condition of the used tube to the new weighted tube. It is not always necessary to replace the weighted tube assembly unless the weights are smooth or the tube has become damaged. You may wait to replace the weighted tube until this wear is apparent.
